Actress

The Resume

    (March 24, 1931-December 18, 2009)
    Born in Dedham, Massachusetts
Portrayed Carol Post on the TV series 'Mr. Ed' (1961-66)
Appeared in episodes of 'The Untouchables,' 'Sea Hunt,' 'Perry Mason,' 'Bonanza' and 'Mod Squad'

Why she might be annoying:

She tried out for her high school's senior class play but did not get the part.
When she auditioned for 'Mr. Ed,' she did not yet have a phone at her apartment, so she had to wait for three hours at a gas station for a call from her agent.
She said she viewed 'Mr. Ed' as little more than a steady paycheck, since the stories largely focused on Ed and Wilbur, leaving her little to do. (Or, as co-star Alan Young put it, 'Her biggest line was 'Lunch is ready.'')

Why she might not be annoying:

She was voted the most popular girl in her high school.
After retiring to northern California, she hosted a cable show about animals, interviewing veterinarians and animal behaviorists and offering animals for adoption.
She enjoyed being discovered by new audiences as 'Mr. Ed' played in syndication and on cable: 'I still get letters and now they're from 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds, and it's just wonderful. People stop me on the street and they say, you know, 'Thank you for being my baby-sitter.' '
