Final WEC Lightweight Champion, prior to the WEC's merge with UFC (Dec. 2010)
UFC Lightweight Champion for 560 days (Aug. 31, 2013)
Defeated by Rafael 'Carpenter' Dos Anjos for UFC Lightweight Champion title (Mar. 14, 2015)

Why he might be annoying:

He began his training in boxing and Tae Kwon Do as early as the age of 5.
His flashy theatrics in kickboxing earned him his nickname.
UFC fans have widely criticized him for being cocky and for making poor, rash fight choices.
His cockiness is believed to be the reason behind his brash decision to defend his Championship title within the first quarter of 2015.
He also planned to defend the title two more times before the year was out if the plan hadn't backfired. He was beaten decisively by Rafael Dos Anjos in January.
He has two poorly crafted likenesses of his mother and daughter's faces tattooed onto his pectorals.
The tattoos' quality is so poor that fans took to the web to mercilessly lampoon them after his UFC win (saying they looked bad enough to have been done in prison, joking that the left tattoo looked like Frodo Baggins).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is extremely agile.
He is a POC Firefighter with a degree from the Fire Academy.
His father was stabbed to death during a robbery at the home of a family friend's (Nov. 12, 2003).
He cites his father as his personal hero, and credits him with driving him to become a successful fighter.
He received Inside MMA's Male Fighter of the Year Bazzie Award (2013).
His infamous 'kick off the fence' against Benson 'Smooth' Henderson went viral on YouTube, making the rounds on ESPN highlight reels for the next week.
UFC Champion Jose Aldo refused to defend his title from Pettis, quoted as saying 'there's no way in hell I'm fighting Pettis' (Feb. 2011).
He received a Wisconsin Certificate of Achievement from Governor Scott Walker (Dec. 2, 2013).
He was the first UFC fighter featured on the cover of a Wheaties box.
He was gracious and sportsmanlike in his loss to Dos Anjos.
His grandfather Anglicized the family name for 'Perez' to 'Pettis' to downplay their immigrant heritage and avoid discrimination.
