Why he might be annoying:

In most of his films he played himself, and in the remaining ones he still portrayed an animal trainer.
An unidentified actor impersonated his voice for his radio show.
Eventually the Cole Brothers removed his name from the circus (2004).

Why he might not be annoying:

He worked his way up from a cage cleaner and animal groomer.
He was almost fatally mauled by a lion named Nero (1933).
At his peak, he would share a cage with 40 big cats.
He said, 'When I'm in there, I don't know if there are a hundred or a thousand in the audience. It doesn't matter. I'll give them anything; I'll give them everything.'
