The Resume

    (May 26, 1895-October 11, 1965)
    Born in Hoboken, New Jersey
    Birth name was Dorothea Nutzhorn
Worked for the Farm Security Administration (FSA) during the Great Depression
Best known picture was 'Migrant Mother' of Florence Owens Thompson

Why she might be annoying:

She would ship her children and stepchildren away when their care conflicted with her work.
She said that before joining the FSA, 'I didn't know a mule from a tractor.'
Thompson said, 'I wish she hadn't taken my picture. I can't get a penny out of it. She didn't ask my name. She said she wouldn't sell the pictures. She said she'd send me a copy. She never did.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She suffered polio at age seven, leaving her with a permanent limp.
Since she was working for the government, she never made any royalties off 'Migrant Mother' either.
She turned down a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship to document the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII.
Her pictures were impounded the Army for highlighting the injustice of the policy.
She died of cancer shortly before the opening of a retrospective of her work at the Museum of Modern Art.
