Monarch

The Resume

    (July 20, 1890-April 1, 1947)
    Born in Tatoi, Greece
    King of Greece (1922-24,1935-47)

Why he might be annoying:

When his father, Constantine I, was first deposed, he was passed over in favor of his younger brother, Alexander (1917).
He was forced into exile following a failed royalist coup (1923) and officially deposed a year later.
During his second stint on the throne, he endorsed the establishment of a quasifascist dictatorship under Ioannis Metaxas (1936).
    He married his second cousin.
News reports in Athens of his death were initially dismissed as an April Fools hoax.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first (and as of 2010 only) reigning monarch to be awarded Britain's Distinguished Service Order for courage under fire, following the German bombardment of Crete (1941).
In a plebicite on the monarchy after WWII, 69% of the Greek population voted in favor of keeping him as king (1946).
He kept a sense of humor about his various exiles, quipping, 'The most important tool for a King of Greece is a suitcase.'
