    Science fiction author, best known for her Dragonriders of Pern series
    Graduated Cum Laude from Radcliffe with a BA in Slavonic Languages and Literature
    Won the Science Fiction Book Club's Book of the Year Award six times
    Also won the Nebula, Hugo, Ditmar, Balrog (twice) and Gandalf awards

    She performed in summer stock and opera before settling on writing as a career.
    She refuses to portray religion in her books.
    She has yet to have any of her works filmed.

    Her first book, Restoree, was written to protest the portrayal of women in science fiction as helpless victims that needed men to save them.
    Her book sales are in the tens of millions.
    She cowrites with up and coming authors to help them out.
