The Resume

    (February 14, 1931-February 12, 2005)
    Born in Detroit, Michigan
Portrayed Porter Ricks in ‘Flipper’s New Adventure’ (1964) and the TV series Flipper (1964-67)
Also appeared in the movies ‘Thunder Island’ (1963), ‘Around the World Under the Sea’ (1966) and ‘Shoot, Gringo…. Shoot!’ (1968)

Why he might be annoying:

He originally planned to follow a career in politics like his father (who eventually became governor of Michigan), but dropped out of law school to become a male model and actor.
Before ‘Flipper,’ he was the lead in two TV series that lasted only a single season, ‘Beacon Street’ (1959) and ‘Straightaway’ (1961-62).
When he married actress Laura Devon (1962), he shaved two years off his age, claiming to be 29.
He had a fling with Miss Universe Apasra Hongsakula, which led to Devon divorcing him.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served with the Marines during the Korean War.
He said he liked starring in ‘Flipper’ because he portrayed ‘a parent who gives kids principles and talks to them about the real values in life.’
His acting career ended after his right arm and leg were paralyzed in a motorcycle accident (1970).
He used money from the accident settlement to invest in real estate, then used the profits from real estate to produce films.
He bought the film rights to Philip K. Dick’s ‘Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep?’ and ended up as an executive producer of the resulting film, ‘Blade Runner.’
