The Resume

    (July 2, 1925-September 17, 2013)
    Born in Wichita, Kansas
    Country and rockabilly singer
Recorded the singles 'Gonna Find Me a Bluebird' (1957), 'The Majesty of Love' (with Connie Francis, 1957), 'Whole Lotta Woman' (1958), 'I Dig It' (1958), 'Nothin' Needs Nothin' (Like I Need You)' (1958) and 'Half Breed' (1959)
Inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame

Why he might be annoying:

He wrote the song 'Tea Bag Romeo' to suck up to Arthur Godfrey, who was a pitchman for Lipton Tea.
He performed in Indian buckskin, a move he later regretted because he felt it typecast him.
He lost most of his money trying to launch a country music magazine that folded after seven issues.
He developed calluses on his vocal cords and was forced into a temporary retirement to rest his voice (1960); his career never recovered from the layoff.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a quarter Cherokee.
He was able to play guitar despite losing part of his right thumb in an accident as a teen.
He got his big break by winning first place on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts (1955).
His 'Whole Lotta Woman' was a #1 hit in Britain.
He continued performing in concert into his 80s, saying 'I think rock and roll makes you look younger and stay younger. I'm certainly not going to stop.'
