Why he might be annoying:

    He was underage when he started boxing professionally and got his ring name from the person whose birth certificate he borrowed in order to pass for 18.
    He lost his world championship to Carmen Basilio in his first title defense.
    A man named Alphonsus D’Amico spent years passing himself off as DeMarco in bars in California. When D’Amico passed away, the Los Angeles Times erroneously reported that DeMarco had died (1990).

Why he might not be annoying:

    His rematch with Basilio was named Ring magazine’s Fight of the Year (1955).
    His son Vincent was fatally struck by a car while bicycling (1975).
    He was extremely popular in his hometown, with his matches regularly setting attendance records at Boston Garden.
    In Boston’s North End, a street was named after him and a statue of him was erected.
