Why he might be annoying:

Sometimes he said L.C was short for 'Lovers Cool,' other times he said the initials did not actually stand for anything.
He wore gold-colored shoes on the field (which under current rules would draw a fine for not matching the rest of the team).
He was nicknamed 'Hollywood Bags' over his often expressed desire to launch an acting career.
The only acting gigs he landed were various commercials, including ones for Miller Lite, Haggar Slacks and Uniroyal Tires.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was part of Pittsburgh's legendary 'Steel Curtain' defensive line.
He started several Pittsburgh-area businesses while still playing, noting 'Many people don't realize that in the 70s football players earned as much as teachers.'
He said that although he would be honored if he were elected to the Football Hall of Fame, he was not upset at being passed over, since he felt that the Steelers already in the Hall represented the entire team's achievements.
Steelers scout Bill Nunn said, 'I used to call him and Jack Ham the quiet assassins, because neither one of them would say a word or put on a show for you.... But when they got on the field, as far as playing ability, playing aggressively, being tough, they were both in the same category as any of the Hall of Famers.'
