His nickname was 'Plum' because his head looked like one.
He reused the same jokes over and over and over again, leading some to call him 'literature's performing flea.'
As a P.O.W. in Berlin in World War II, he made lighthearted radio broadcasts from his cell causing the British public to believe he was a Nazi sympathizer.
A. A. Milne, the author of 'Winnie the Pooh,' despised him.
