Explorer

The Resume

    (1975- )
Born in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom
Walked the length of the Amazon River (April 2, 2008–August 9, 2010)
    British Army captain (retired 2002)
ABC News Person of the Week (May 2010)

Why he might be annoying:

He was born to London-based attorneys and raised in posh boarding schools.
While other explorers were guided by the stars, he used Google Earth.
He took a mobile fish tank on his trip — and lost all his guppies in the process.
His first partner quit the expedition on him after three months.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is inspired by little-known explorers who themselves achieved seemingly impossible missions — and by being told his own goal was impossible.
He is a fan of 'The Office' (both versions).
While not the first explorer overall to walk the 4,200 miles (6,759 km), no one before him completed the journey entirely on foot.
A Peruvian forestry worker, who initially wasn’t supposed to accompany him for more than a few weeks, joined him on the rest of his Amazon mission.
