Why Pyramid might be annoying
There were numerous versions of the show, most of them representing a different dollar amount.
In the first season, there was a large, distracting piece on plywood nailed to four unused category windows at the Winner's Circle's set.
Two attempts at a revival in the 1990's and the 2000's were unsuccessful.
A complex tournament format was introduced on '$50,000 Pyramid' and was later used on '$100,000 Pyramid.'
The rules for the 'Winner's Circle' were a bit too restrictive (for example: you could not use hand gestures, synonyms, prepositional or compartmental phrases, etc...).
When William Shatner appeared as a celebrity player in 1977, he threw his chair across the studio after giving an illegal clue.
For the 2000's version, contestants had to identify 6 words in 20 seconds instead of the usual 7 words in 30 seconds.
Why Pyramid might not be annoying
CBS canceled it in 1987 and replaced it with the failed game show 'Blackout,' then brought it back again after 'Blackout' got canceled.
David Letterman and Robert Wuhl were contestants on the show before becoming famous.
Dick Clark appeared on the 2000's version as a celebrity player.
TV Guide ranked it #6 on their '50 Greatest Game Shows of All Time.'
It would occasionally have special episodes featuring kids or blind people as contestants.
It gave away huge cash prizes for the time.
