Why she might be annoying:

    Many think Betty Crocker was a real person, but she is not.
    Neysa McMein sampled the faces of General Mills Home Service Department to draw Betty Crocker (1936).
    The original Betty Crocker has been altered at least seven times to update her appearance.
    The National Organization of Women accused General Mills of promoting discrimination by stereotyping women as housewives. They went so far as to take a class action suit again General Mills (1972).
    She has been called the white Aunt Jemima.
    She appeared in the first color commercial aired on CBS (1951).

Why she might not be annoying:

    She is named for the company founder William Crocker, and Betty as a friendly name.
    She was originally created as a way of the company giving a more personalized answer to letters.
    Betty's signature is that of a female employee (1921).
    She first represented only Gold Medal Flour, but as her popularity grew, she represented all of General Mills baking products.
    General Mills' rival, Quaker Oats introduced their own Betty Crocker called Mary Alden (1943).
    Her famous cookbook is simply known as Big Red (1951).
    She is the role model for Martha Stewart types.
    She was so popular with Americans that she finished second in Fortune Magazine's poll (to then first lady Eleanor Roosevelt) as America's most famous women (1945).
    According to Advertising Age, she is the fourth most important Advertising Icon of the century.
