Musicians

The Resume

Formed in San Francisco in 1964
    Original line-up:
    Sal Valentino - lead vocals
    Ron Elliott - lead guitar
Declan Mulligan - rhythm guitar, bass & harmonica
    Ron Meagher - bass guitar
    John Petersen - drums
Recorded 'Laugh, Laugh' and 'Just a Little'

Why they might be annoying:

    They are a U.S. two-hit wonder.
To catch the wave of British Invasion musicians, they picked a name that 'sounded British,' and as rumors of them being British arose, they made no effort to deny them.
They adamantly denied picking a group name that would place them immediately behind the Beatles in record store bins.
Mulligan was ousted in 1965, and a year later sued the band for $1.25 million in damages, claiming he was wrongfully dismissed.
Petersen quit the band in 1967 to join the band Harpers Bizarre.
Meagher was forced to leave the band in 1968 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army.
Calling it quits in 1969, the band reformed in 1974 with its five original members, releasing a self-titled album that managed to peak at a mere #180 on the album charts, then disbanded for good in 1975.

Why they might not be annoying:

Their music genre included pop rock, folk rock, country rock and psychedelic rock.
Sly Stone was responsible for producing some of their early recordings.
In late 1965, Elliott began to suffer seizures from a diabetic condition, making it difficult for him to tour with band (a fill-in was hired).
'Laugh, Laugh' made it to #15 on the U.S. Singles chart in 1964, and 'Just a Little' made it to #8 a year later.
They did even better in Canada, where five of their songs reached the Top 20.
They showed up in a 1965 episode of 'The Flintstones,' playing 'Laugh, Laugh' as The Beau Brummelstones (naturally).
In 1994, 'Laugh, Laugh' was named one of 'The 500 Songs That Shaped Rock & Roll,' showcased by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Petersen died of a heart attack in 2007 at age 65.
