The Resume

    Formed in 1965 in Boston
    Original line-up:
Jesse Colin Young - lead vocals, bass
Jerry Corbitt - lead guitar, vocals
Lowell 'Banana' Levinger - rhythm guitar, keyboards
    Joe Bauer - drums
    Recorded 'Get Together'

Why they might be annoying:

They are a one hit wonder.
Young was born Perry Miller and changed his name to a three-part moniker for reasons known to him alone.
When they released 'Get Together' (originally titled 'Let's Get Together') in 1967, it did poorly, peaking at #62.
They were scheduled to play on 'The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson,' but Carson nixed the idea after they were 'overly demanding during the pre-show soundcheck.'
Young said of their tenure with RCA records, 'Nobody at RCA was really mean or anything; everybody was just kind of stupid. They never knew what to make of us, and tried to set us up as a bubblegum act... they never knew what we were, and never knew how to merchandise us.'
They disbanded in 1972, only to reform for one year (1984-85) before pulling the plug for good.

Why they might not be annoying:

They combined folk music that was popular in the early '60s with psychedelic music that was popular in the late '60s.
They were know in their live performances as musical craftsmen for their clever lengthy improvisations of songs.
When the National Council of Christians and Jews used 'Get Together' in radio and TV ads in 1969, renewed interest in the song began.
The song hit #5 on Billboard's Singles chart, two years after the original release, and sold over a million copies (certified gold in October 1969).
Bauer died of a brain tumor in 1982 at age 40.
After 9/11, the Clear Channel Communications goons listed 'Get Together' as one of about 150 songs they deemed 'lyrically questionable' (along with Louis Armstrong's 'What a Wonderful World,' Tom Petty's 'Free Fallin',' and every song by Rage Against the Machine).
'Get Together' remains Scar Tactics' favorite song from the 1960s.
