Guest starred on ‘Peter Gunn,’ ‘The Untouchables,’ ‘Perry Mason,’ ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show,’ ‘The Munsters,’ ‘The Andy Griffith Show,’ ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,’ ‘My Favorite Martian,’ ‘Hogan’s Heroes,’ ‘Hawaii Five-O,’ ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ ‘Murder, She Wrote,’ ‘Oz,’ ‘The King of Queens,’ ‘JAG’ and ‘Touched By an Angel’

Why he might be annoying:

He went bald at a very young age.
He is forever typecast as Captain Stubing from ‘Love Boat.’
Despite complaining about being associated with the role, he agreed to be the spokesperson for Princess Cruises.
He became a terrible alcoholic and womanizer, and his wife divorced him.
He is sometimes confused with the actor Darren McGavin.
He is now fanatically religious.
He was the only regular cast member not to win an Emmy for acting on the 'Mary Tyler Moore Show.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Despite a distinguished early career, he’s best remembered for the corny ‘Love Boat’ role.
The series essentially destroyed his career.
He’s participated in fundraisers to fight AIDS.
He’s proud of his Native American heritage.
He quit drinking for good, and his wife came back to him.
David Letterman once featured a goofy game called ‘Is It Potatoes or Gavin MacLeod?’
