Why Arizona might be annoying
It became part of New Spain by the Spanish government (1598).
Along with New Mexico, it became a province of Mexico (1821).
Republican Governor Evan Mecham was impeached (February 5, 1988).
The temperature reached 122ºF in Phoenix Arizona (June 26, 1990).
Although Phoenix was scheduled to host the 1993 Super Bowl game, the NFL changed its mind,
because Arizona does not honor Martin Luther King Day.
They requested admission to the US in 1891 but it did not become a state until February 14, 1912.
Several Latino and civil rights groups called for a boycott of the state after Governor Jan Brewer signed a controversial immigration bill into law (April 2010).

It was taken by the U.S. in the Mexican War, with the rest acquired via the Gadsden Purchase.
