Why Arizona might be annoying
    It became part of New Spain by the Spanish government (1598).
    Along with New Mexico, it became a province of Mexico (1821).
    Republican Governor Evan Mecham was impeached (February 5, 1988).
    The temperature reached 122ºF in Phoenix Arizona (June 26, 1990).
    Although Phoenix was scheduled to host the 1993 Super Bowl game, the NFL changed its mind, because Arizona does not honor Martin Luther King Day.
    They requested admission to the US in 1891 but it did not become a state until February 14, 1912.
    Several Latino and civil rights groups called for a boycott of the state after Governor Jan Brewer signed a controversial immigration bill into law (April 2010).
Why Arizona might not be annoying
    It was taken by the U.S. in the Mexican War, with the rest acquired via the Gadsden Purchase.
    Sights include the Grand Canyon, Coolidge Dam and the National Observatory at Kitt Peak.
    Cochise and Geronimo were born here.
    Actress Sandra Bernhard and jazz bassist Charles Mingus were born in Arizona.
    American war hero and presidential candidate John McCain is a Senator from Arizona.
    It is illegal to hunt camel in Arizona.
    One of the most advanced native american tribes ruled the Arizona territory.
    Marcos de Niza, a Franciscan friar, was the first white man to reach Arizona (1539).
    P Lowell discovered asteroid #793 and named it Arizona (April 9, 1907).
    They joined Kansas & Wisconsin to vote for female suffrage (November 5, 1912).
    The US oil company purchased the London Bridge to be erected in Arizona (April 18, 1968).
    They have an NFL football team named the Arizona Cardinals (1988- ), Originally from Chicago and St. Louis.
    They have an NBA basketball team named the Phoenix Suns (1968- )
