The Resume

    (September 18, 1945-June 23, 2021)
    Born in Scotland, United Kingdom
    Computer programmer
    Founded McAfee Associates (1987)
Developed the first commercial anti-virus software program
    Resigned from McAfee Associates (1994)
    Company bought by Intel (2010)

Why he might be annoying:

It is uncertain if he was born in 1945 or 1946.
He was expelled from graduate school for sleeping with one of the undergrads that he was tutoring.
In the early 80s, he abused cocaine, LSD and Qualudes.
Asked if used McAfee anti-virus, he replied 'I take it off,' adding 'It's too annoying.'
At McAfee Associates, a long-running corporate game gave employees points for having sex at different spots in the offices.
His personal fortune reportedly declined from $100 million to $4 million in the wake of the 2007 financial crisis.
Authorities in Belize named him 'a person of interest' in the murder of his next-door neighbor, fellow American expatriate Gregory Viant Faull (November 12, 2012).
He evaded the authorities, claiming the police were planning to kill him.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow of Belize called him 'extremely paranoid, even bonkers.'
He fled to Guatemala and was arrested for illegally entering the country (December 5, 2012).
His petition for political asylum was denied and he was deported to the United States.
He was arrested in Lexington, Tennessee, for driving under the influence and possessing a handgun while intoxicated (August 2, 2015).

Why he might not be annoying:

His father beat him and his mother.
He said that rather than use antivirus software, he avoids sites where you're likely to pick up a virus: 'Porn sites, for example, I just don't go there.'
He lost the hearing in one ear when one of his girlfriends (a former teen prostitute in Belize) tried to shoot him.
He forgave her. ('When she tried to shoot me in the head what I saw was a frightened child.... What are you going to do? Throw her out? That doesn't help her.')
Belize authorities have pressed no charges against him.
They did, however, seize his residence and auction off his possessions.
Cybersecurity reporter John Casaretto claimed that there really was a plot to kill McAfee: 'He is not a crazed lunatic.... The police [of Belize] were thugs.'
