Voice Actor

The Resume

    (January 6, 1920-May 19, 2005)
    Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
    Birth name was Henry Cohen
Appeared in ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947),’ ‘Abbott & Costello in the Foreign Legion,’ ‘Hiawatha,’ ‘Phantom of the Rue Morgue,’ ‘The Ten Commandments,’ ‘McHale’s Navy Joins the Air Force,’ ‘Don’t Worry, We’ll Think of a Title,’ and ‘Modern Problems’
Best known as the second voice of Fred Flintstone (vocals in ‘The Man Called Flintstone,’ official debut in ‘Fred Flintstone and Friends,’ 1977)
Additional TV credits include ‘The Banana Splits Adventures Hour,’ and ‘the 10th Annual Television Academy Hall of Fame (1994)’
    Russian mother, Romanian father

Why he might be annoying:

His sinister ethnic looks and disorderly jet-black hair suited him perfectly for a host of roles — usually coldblooded high-profile thugs.
He was married four times, divorced twice, and widowed once.
Among his numerous uncredited film appearances was a second Abbott & Costello movie (‘… meet Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde’).
After ‘Modern Problems,’ he claimed he had to deal with too many 10 ½-year-old casting directors (not a misprint!) to continue with live auditions.
Like his predecessor Alan Reed, he not only had Fred’s build – at six foot one – but also was felled by emphysema (Sherman Oaks).

Why he might not be annoying:

Despite having an instantly recognizable Saturday morning voice, he was no slouch at dialects.
He developed a close relationship with Boris Karloff (from ‘Walter Mitty’) and Buster Keaton (through live stage).
He had plenty of preparation for his signature role, having been a guest voice on several original Flintstones episodes.
Jay Leno gave him a special posthumous mention on The Tonight Show.
At least each of his marriages held for several years.
