Why he might be annoying:

    He was married five times, divorced four times.
    As an attorney, he controversially represented Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo.
    His brother James wrote about his time in Congress, 'He coasted instead of working at his job, considering it beneath him, while he aimed for higher positions.'
    He ran unsuccessfully for governor of New York (1966).
    While campaigning for John F. Kennedy in the West Virginia primary (1960), he falsely accused Kennedy's opponent, Hubert Humphrey of dodging the draft during World War II.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was one of the first people in the US treated with sulfa drugs after developing a life-threatening streptococcal infection of the throat (1936).
    During World War II, he received the Silver Star for carrying a critically wounded sailor to safety while under fire.
    He ran a successful business importing FIAT and Jaguar autos into the US.
    His brother James wrote, 'Franklin is the one who came closest to being another FDR. He had father's looks, his speaking voice, his smile, his charm, his charisma.'
