    Born in Cesena, Italy
    Birth name was Count Giovanni Angelo Braschi
    250th Pope of the Catholic Church (1775-1799)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was elected as a compromise candidate.
    He could not decide whether or not to curtail the power of the Jesuits.
    He made his uncle a bishop.
    His reign saw the looting of church property during the French Revolution. He was powerless to stop it.
    His own citizens, inspired by the French Revolution, revolted against him and declared themselves citizens of France.
    He refused to renounce his temporal powers as Pope after the French invaded the Papal States and he was imprisoned (1798).
    He was a character in a Marquis de Sade narrative.
    His corpse was not buried for months after his death.

    He died in exile.
    He fought against corruption in the Papal States.
