Biblical Characters

The Resume

Name means ‘to burn’ in Hebrew
    Plural of seraph
Mentioned frequently in the Old Testament and possibly once in Revelation
Celestial beings in perpetual attendance on God’s throne
Said to have six wings and four faces
At the top of the angelic hierarchy in Christianity
    Associated with the color red

Why they might be annoying:

Their rank in the Jewish celestial hierarchy is only middling.
If you see one, its brightness will burn you to a crisp immediately.
Their main function is to constantly circle God’s throne and sing ‘Holy, holy, holy.’
They sometimes appear in the Old Testament as fiery snakes sent by God to punish sinners.
There is disagreement as to whether they are actual beings or metaphors for divine forces.

Why they might not be annoying:

They cleanse believers and increase their religious fervor.
They must use one set of wings to cover their eyes in God’s presence to avoid being incinerated.
Their chorus can be loud enough to shake the foundations of heaven.
A seraph touched Isaiah's lips with a live coal to purify them.
Lucifer and Gabriel are both seraphim.
