    Created the Hitler diaries (1983)
    Sentenced to 42 months in prison for forgery and embezzlement

Why he might be annoying:

    He fled from East to West Germany after a warrant was issued for his arrest for stealing from a youth club (1957).
    While operating a bar, he was arrested for forging lunch vouchers.
    He illegally imported Nazi memorabilia from East Germany.
    He added a sideline of forging paintings and adding Hitler's signature.
    Autograph expert Kenneth Rendell called his Hitler diaries 'bad forgeries but a great hoax.'
    Carrying on the family tradition, his grandniece was arrested for forging his signature onto cheap copies of paintings (2006).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He spent much of his youth in orphanages due to his parents' poverty.
    He and his wife ran a successful office cleaning business.
    After serving his time for the Hitler diaries, he set up a business selling 'genuine fakes' -- paintings in the style of famous artists.
    He appeared on TV as a forgery expert.
