The Resume

    (November 26, 1927-September 18, 2001)
    Born in Lewiston, Maine
    Died in Pickering, Ontario, Canada
Best known for the title role in the Canadian children's TV series ‘Mr. Dressup’ (1967-96)
Other works include ‘Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings,’ ‘Mister Rogers Neighborhood’ and ‘Butternut Square’

Why he might be annoying:

He looked older than he actually was.
He was another American children’s television show host who opted to establish himself in Canada when his show was guaranteed airtime.
Similar to Bob Homme, his show was cancelled by the CBC after a three decade run.
He performed a one-man show in bars following the end of ‘Mr. Dressup’, essentially using it as a way to reminisce about his days on the air.

Why he might not be annoying:

He got his start as a children’s entertainer working as a puppeteer under Fred Rogers on ‘Mister Roger’s’ Neighborhood.’
He intentionally gave the 'Mr. Dressup' child puppet Casey a gender-neutral name in order to let the children decide what gender the character was.
He always replied with 'You’re right' no matter what when viewers asked him whether Casey was a boy or a girl.
He was considered a treasured icon on Canadian television.
He was a strong advocate for wholesome programming, which he felt best encouraged children to use their creativity.
He was involved in theatre productions, along with his work on ‘Mr. Dressup.’
He served as a spokesman for various children’s charities.
He became a naturalized Canadian citizen (1994).
He was laid to rest in his home state of Maine, despite being away from there for the majority of his adult life.
