The Resume

    (July 12, 2010-September 5, 2016)
    TNT
Angie Harmon as Det. Jane Rizzoli
Sasha Alexander as (Chief Medical Examiner) Dr. Maura Isles
Brian Goodman as Lt. Sean Cavanagh
    Jordan Bridges as Frankie Rizzoli
Lee Thompson Young as Barry Frost
Bruce McGill as Sgt. Vince Korsak
    Lorraine Bracco as Angela Rizzoli
Based on the book series by Tess Gerritsen
A streetwise police detective and cultured medical examiner take on the most ghastly murder cases in Boston and the idiosyncrasies of those in their personal and professional lives

Why Rizzoli and Isles might be annoying:

It was originally supposed to be titled, quite simply, Rizzoli. No Isles.
Harmon seems to get typecast in tough chick roles.
Set in Boston, filmed in Los Angeles.
Basically, except for being single by choice, not quite Lucy and Ethel fighting crime, but close.
Rizzoli uses particular musical pieces as ringtones to identify her callers (for example, Chopin’s Funeral March identifies the caller as Isles).
For her part – even on the job – Isles almost always looks like she’s at a fashion magazine shoot.

Why Rizzoli and Isles might not be annoying:

Many episode titles are based on popular songs.
Would you think Alexander played a tough-as-nails tomboy in NCIS?
Leading in for the season debut of The Closer helped it to record ratings for an ad-supported premiere on cable television.
Despite its crime drama format, it is a land mine of high comedy — especially with repeated insinuations of homoeroticism between the leads.
Its official website claims: ‘Enough chemistry and subtext to fill a body bag.’
It helped Young avoid being associated exclusively with his ‘Jett Jackson’ past.
