Why he might be annoying:

He moved 18 times before his 18th birthday.
Although born in South Africa and raised in Canada and the US, he plays for Team Germany in international competition.
He is nicknamed 'Olie the goalie' and 'Godzilla.'
His record was 14-36-8 before he took the starting goaltender's job.
After leading the Caps to triumphs over Boston, Ottawa and Buffalo, he failed to match that same success against Detroit in the Stanley Cup Finals (1998).
He has a MacFarlane action figure of himself.

Why he might not be annoying:

His son is autistic. Along with goaltender Byron Dafoe and forward Scott Mellanby who also have autistic children, they co-founded the Athletes Against Autism foundation.
He is the first NHLer born in South Africa.
He persevered and didn't demand a trade during the Capitals 2003-04 fire sale.
He is among the franchise leaders in many goaltending categories.
When the Caps didnt give him a chance to play regularly earlier on in his career, he worked hard enough to put up some really good performances in net.
