The Resume

    (April 22, 1844-July 7, 1865)
    Born in Randolph County, Alabama
Also known as Lewis Payne and Lewis Paine
    Fought with the Confederate Army
Wounded and captured at the Battle of Gettysburg
Escaped from a POW hospital with the help of a nurse
Participant with John Wilkes Booth in the plot to assassinate Abraham Lincoln
Assigned the task of assassinating Secretary of State William Seward

Why he might be annoying:

He joined the Confederate Secret Service as a spy.
He was arrested in Baltimore for severely beating a black servant.
He stabbed Seward repeatedly and injured four other people in the attack.
Seward survived only because he had broken his jaw in a carriage accident and a jaw splint deflected Powell’s knife away from his jugular vein.

Why he might not be annoying:

Growing up, he was nicknamed ‘Doc’ because he cared for sick and stray animals.
At 13, his jaw was broken when the family donkey kicked him in the face.
At his execution, he asked for mercy for fellow prisoner Mary Surratt.
