The Resume

    (1948- )
Born in London, England, United Kingdom
    English documentary film director
Documentary subjects include Kurt Cobain, Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Sarah Palin, and Whitney Houston
Selected filmography includes 'Who Cares' (1971), 'Juvenile Liaison' (1975) 'Soldier Girls' (1981) 'Chicken Ranch' (1983), 'Ghosts' (2006) and 'The Battle for Haditha' (2007)
Frequently appears in his documentaries as himself; usually holding the sound boom and wearing a Nagra tape recorder

Why he might be annoying:

He takes on a raunchy tabloidy Gonzo-style approach with his documentary subjects.
Even when his projects ostensibly focus on well-known celebrities, more often than not HE is the real star of the documentary (usually showing him unsuccessfully hunting for an interview with the subject).
His self-promoting style of documentary film-making has inspired the work of 21st-century auteurs like Michael Moore.
His 'Kurt and Courtney' documentary was slated to be screened at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival but was cancelled after Courtney Love threatened to sue (it was released after Kurt's suicide).
He parodied his documentary style for a series of ads for Volkswagen in which he 'investigated' rumors about the new Passat (1999).
He joked 'Dennis Potter once said watching my films was like watching somebody on the toilet. Strangely enough, I think the same could be said about him!'

Why he might not be annoying:

He went to a Quaker boarding school.
His mother was a Czech refugee who fled post-WWII era violence.
He went to France as an exchange student at the age of 15.
He was the last person to interview Aileen Wuornos before her execution.
His documentaries have a very punchy, self-deprecating humor.
He is famous for working with a minimal crew, usually recording sound himself and using one or two camera operators.
During a BBC interview, he said: 'I believe that there's a goodness out there, and I think there's goodness in everybody. We should probably all try and have a good dig around and find out where it is.'
