Portrayed Judge Heller on the TV soap 'General Hospital' (1981)
Acted in 'Every Man Needs One (1972),' 'Mankillers (1987)' and 'Donor (1990)'
Died of emphysema and kidney failure at age 65

She was the first African American to earn an Emmy when she won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (1970).
She was shown kissing 'Mannix' co-star Mike Connors and thanked him in her Emmy speech, describing him as 'just beautiful.'
She also won two Best Supporting TV Actress Golden Globe awards in 1971 and 1973.
She had a brother who was a businessman and died of heart failure 12 hours after her death.
