The Resume

    (February 18, 1974- )
    Born in Mount Vernon, Missouri
    Environmental activist/motivational speaker
Known for spending 738 days sitting in a 180-foot redwood tree known as Luna to prevent it being cut down by Pacific Lumber (December 10, 1997-December 18, 1999)
Wrote 'The Legacy of Luna' and 'One Makes the Difference'

Why she might be annoying:

    She is a vegan.
She was almost rejected as a tree sitter by Earth First! because of her lack of experience.
She admitted that if she had known that the two weeks of tree sitting that she initially volunteered for would stretch into two years, she would have run away screaming.
She claimed, 'Because I'm a public figure, people often don't realize I'm an introvert' --- an introvert who speaks at 250 events a year.

Why she might not be annoying:

When she was 22, while acting as a designated driver for a friend, she was hit from behind by a drunk driver, and required ten months of intensive therapy before she could walk or talk.
During her stay in Luna, she endured freezing rains and high winds caused by El Nino, harassment from helicopters buzzing the tree, threats from angry loggers, and a ten-day siege by company security guards trying to prevent people from delivering supplies to her.
At the end of the tree-sit, Pacific Lumber agreed to preserve Luna and all trees within a 200-foot buffer zone.
She inspired the Simpsons episode 'Lisa the Tree Hugger.'
She was mentioned in songs by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Neil Young.
The Washington Post wrote, 'If positive energy fueled automobiles and heated homes, oil companies would line up to tap Julia Butterfly Hill.'
