    Born in Warsaw, Poland
    Harpsichordist
    Founded the Ecole de Musique Ancienne near Paris (1925)
    Best known for her recordings of Bach's Goldberg Variations

Why she might be annoying:

    She was a child prodigy.
    She hired a maid who doubled as her husband's mistress.
    She and Nadia Boulanger reportedly engaged in a heated rivalry for the affections of female students.
    One critic wrote that her playing sounded 'like a sewing machine. Thanks to her wide influence, this blight can be heard in her pupils to this day.'

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was credited with almost single-handedly reviving interest in the harpsichord in the 20th century.
    She received the French Legion of Honor.
    She lost almost all her property when she fled to America after the German army invaded France in WWII.
    She responded to criticism from Pablo Casals with, 'You continue to play Bach your way, and I'll play Bach his way.'
