One critic wrote, ‘In all her books, the characters are two dimensional, the plots far-fetched and improbable.’
She was rumored to have been driven mad by her own literary creations.

Why she might not be annoying:

She began writing to occupy her time when her husband, a journalist and editor, was late from work.
By providing rational explanations for seemingly supernatural events in her novels, she was said to have legitimized the Gothic genre.
