Lab technicians are not cops. They do not carry guns or badges. They do not question suspects or get into shootouts.
The cast is almost interchangeable with CSI: Miami. David Caruso/Gary Sinise as the intense brooding leaders, Carmine Giovinazzo/Alex Rodriguez as the intense brooding hunks unable to articulate their feelings, Eva La Rue/Anna Belknap as clones of each other.
The cinematography gives the show a bizarre blue or gray look that borders on black and white.
Much like the other CSI shows, there is a lot of cheesy, faux hard-boiled dialog.
It seems to actually take itself seriously.

Many of the outdoor scenes are actually filmed in New York.
It has the best cast of all the CSI shows.
A show set in New York that actually has blacks and other ethnic minorities. Take that Friends!
It does capture at least some of New York's atmosphere and sometimes features New York landmarks like the Empire State Building and Broadway.
