The Resume

    (April 18, 1947-April 4, 2010)
    Born in Glendale, California
Birth name was Dawn Catherine Menzer
Portrayed Velvet Brown on the series 'National Velvet' (1960-62)
Portrayed Nancy Bowden in 'Cape Fear' (1962)
Acted in 'Cash McCall' (1960), 'The Chase' (1966), and 'The Angry Breed' (1968)

Why she might be annoying:

She unsuccessfully attempted a singing career.
She changed her name to Lori Martin after winning the lead in 'Velvet,' and later said of it: 'I didn't like the name Lori at first. But I like it now. The reason I like it now is I've been brainwashed!'
She tried to reactivate her career in the seventies but couldn't adjust to the change in acting styles.
At fifteen, she was dolled up like a lolita as Gregory Peck's daughter who is stalked by Robert Mitchum in 'Cape Fear' (fans of the movie still debate the daughter's actual age in the film).

Why she might not be annoying:

Her first acting job was a Chrysler commercial.
She dated 'Rifleman' star Johnny Crawford and the Donna Reed Show's Paul Petersen.
'Cape Fear' director J. Lee Thompson later admitted to treating her poorly during filming because he had wanted Hayley Mills (who was unavailable) for the part of the daughter.
She was chosen out of 974 hopefuls for the lead in 'National Velvet.'
She struggled with bipolar depression later in her life.
Her husband died in 1999, leaving her with an only son to raise.
