    He condemned modernist Biblical translations.
    His papacy was the shortest of the 19th Century.
    He spent most of his papacy in poor health.
    There were rumors he was poisoned, despite there being no evidence of it.

Why he might not be annoying:

    While serving as Bishop of Montalto, he was arrested for refusing to swear allegiance to Napoleon.
    His two immediate predecessors, Pius VII and Leo XII, predicted he would be Pope.
    To avoid any potential for nepotism, he ordered his relatives to resign from any Church positions when he became Pope.
