Why he might be annoying:

At age 16, he quit school to study music.
    He never married.
When asked why he would not marry, he replied: 'Why should I limit myself to only one woman when I can have as many women as I want?'
He was madly in love with Paulette Goddard, who at the time was married to Charlie Chaplin.
He was one of four siblings.
His brain tumor would cause him to forget parts of his musical score for 'The Goldwyn Follies (1938).'

Why he might not be annoying:

At age 22, he composed his first musical hit, 'Swanee.'
He learned to play the piano by ear at an early age.
He composed some of the greatest musical scores of all time.
His musical 'Porgy and Bess' is one of the best loved musicals and is probably his best, most powerful piece of work.
He was the first composer to successfully use jazz in works written for the concert hall.
He is said to have composed 'Rhapsody in Blue (1924)' in less three weeks.
His musical 'Of Three I Sing (1931)' is the first musical comedy to win the Pulitzer Prize.
He worked well with his brother, Ira Gershwin.
He and his brother were nominated for a 1938 Oscar for their song 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' in 'Shall We Dance (1937).'
His all-black musical, 'Porgy and Bess (1937),' is said to have been the first true American Opera.
He died from a brain tumor.
His songs 'Summertime,' 'Let's Call the Whole Thing Off' and 'I Got Rhythm' were included in AFI's list of the greatest movie songs of all time.
He was given two separate funerals, one in Hollywood and one in New York.
Many think he is the greatest musical composer of the twentieth century and they may very well be right.
