The Resume

    (1993- )
Based out of Miami, Florida (1993-98) and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (1998- )
Play at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida
Lost their only Stanley Cup Final's appearance to the Colorado Avalanche (1996)
Former players include John Vanbiesbrouck, Rob Niedermayer, Scott Mellanby, Joe Cirella, Ed Jovanovski, Pavel Bure, Robert Svehla, Dino Ciccarelli, Valeri Bure, Olli Jokinen and Roberto Luongo

Why they might be annoying:

Their logo is a hockey stick and a palm tree crossing each other in front of a sun.
They used to share the same stadium with the NBA's Miami Heat and the many concerts that came through Miami, making it extremely difficult to maintain an NHL standard ice rink.
They attributed their successful 1995-96 season to a 'lucky' rat that was killed by team captain Scott Mellanby. Fans of the team would smuggle in plastic rats to the games and throw them on to the ice after goals were scored.
Despite the warm locale of South Florida, they struggle to attract marquee players to sign with their team.
It took them 19 years to win a divisional championship.
They set an NHL futility record after going ten consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance (2001-2011).

Why they might not be annoying:

Hall of Fame goaltender Bill Smith was named their first goaltending coach.
They won their first ever game in a 2-0 shutout against in-state rivals Tampa Bay Lightning (1993).
They set an inaugural season record when they recorded 74 points.
Supermodel Niki Taylor and tennis star Anna Kournikova used to attend many home games because of boyfriends they had on the team (Niki used to date forward Rob Niedermayer and Anna used to date right winger Pavel Bure).
Dino Ciccarelli became the 9th player to score 600 goals in a Panthers jersey (1998).
The teams ownership founded the Florida Sports Foundation.
In an attempt to return to NHL relevancy, they hired Dale Tallon away from the Chicago Blackhawks to turn the franchise around.
They ended their non-consecutive playoff streak by winning the franchise's first ever division title (2012).
