Architect

The Resume

    (October 6, 1887-August 27, 1965)
    Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland
Birth name was Charles Edouard Jeanneret-Gris
    Architect/urban planner/furniture designer/painter
Noted buildings include Villa Jeanneret in Paris (1926), Cite Radieusse in Marseille (1952), the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo (1957) and the Philips Pavilion in Brussels (1958)
Wrote 'Towards a New Architecture' (1923), 'Urbanism' (1925) and 'The Radiant City' (1935)
Described a house as 'a machine for living'

Why he might be annoying:

Few of the buildings he designed were actually built.
He sucked up to fascists in Mussolini's Italy and Vichy France to try to get commissions.
His 'rational city' plans inspired tons of boring, boxlike housing projects.
He died when he ignored his doctor's orders and suffered a heart attack while swimming in the Mediterranean.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was one of the most influential architects of the 20th century.
He advocated an architecture that would be a product of the modern age rather than a throwback to classical or Renaissance styles.
    He admired New York's skyscrapers.
