Outlaw

The Resume

    (June 20, 1908-February 8, 1932)
    Born in Gweedore, Ireland
    Bith name was Uinseann O'Colla
One time mob enforcer for Dutch Schultz
Crimes included murder, kidnapping, extortion, hijacking, bootlegging, torturing and loansharking
Nickname was the Gangster from Gweedore until an unsuccessful hit killed a 5-year-old boy (July 28, 1931)
Afterwards New York City Mayor Jimmy Walker dubbed him Mad dog
At one point was named Number One on the F.B.I.'s Most Wanted List
Died in a Bronx phone booth from a hitman with a submachine gun at age 23
1961 and 1992 films titled 'Mad Dog Coll' were based loosely on his life as well as Nicolas Cage's Mad Dog character in the 1984 movie 'The Cotton Club'

Why he might be annoying:

He was ruthless and a cold-blooded killer.
Besides kidnapping mob members for ransom, he also kidnapped Rudy Vallee and Sherman Billingsly, owner of New York City's Stork Club.
He bandaged the eyes of one kidnap victim with a gonorrhea infected cloth and shortly after his release the victim went blind.
He failed to show up for a court date and the bail money fronted by his boss Schultz was lost, enraging him and causing the two to become mortal enemies.
He was after a Schultz underling when he killed an innocent kid and wounded several other children.
Incredibly, he showed up at court to face the child murder charges and even more incredibly, he got a lawyer to acquit him.
He was hired by mob boss Salvatore Maranzano to kill Lucky Luciano for $25,000 down and $25,000 after the job, but when Lucky's boys polished of Maranzano first he simply kept the money and ran.
Irish mob boss Owney Madden, with help from Schultz, put a $50,000 bounty on his head and kept him on the phone long enough for a hitman to pump 18 bullets into his head and body.

Why he might not be annoying:

His family moved to America when he was one, but his mom died when he was eight.
Growing up in poverty, he saw five of his siblings die by the time he turned 12 and his father split, leaving him to be raised by a sister.
His older brother Peter was gunned down a year before him.
Ironically, a week after he was buried, the Lindbergh baby kidnapping ransom was tossed over a wall at St. Raymond's cemetery in the Bronx and landed right next to his grave.
Ogden Nash mentions him in his poem 'A Tale of the Thirteenth Floor.'
