Why he might be annoying:

He grew up in a town called Bug Tussle.
He chaired the hopelessly chaotic 1968 Democratic National Convention.
He collided with two parked cars and was described by witnesses as 'obviously drunk.' (1972)
When DC police arrived, he told them, 'Leave me alone. I'm Carl Albert, Speaker of the House. You can't touch me. I just got you raises.'
He was accused of accepting bribes and gifts from a South Korean lobbyist; he denied taking any bribes, but admitted to accepting 'token' gifts (1976).

He was 16 before he lived in a house with electricity and running water.
He was valedictorian at both his high school and the University of Oklahoma.
He earned trips to Europe by winning national debate contests in both high school and college.
He earned a bronze star while serving with the Judge Advocate General Corps in World War II.
He was married to Mary Harmon for 57 years.
He was credited with maintaining impartiality as the House Judiciary Committee investigated Watergate.
He said, 'I very much dislike doctrinaire liberals. And I don't like reactionary conservatives. I like to face issues in terms of conditions and not in terms of someone's inborn political philosophy.'
