The Resume

    (July 19, 2013- )
    Aired on the Disney Channel
Created by Executive Producers John Beck and Ron Hart
Dove Cameron as Olivia ‘Liv’ Rooney and Madison ‘Maddie’ Rooney
    Joey Bragg as Joey Rooney
Tenzing Norgay Trainor as Parker Rooney
    Kali Rocha as Karen Rooney
    Benjamin King as Pete Rooney
Premise: A former child star (Liv) returns to her Wisconsin hometown to reunite with her family — and her nerdy and athletic identical twin sister (Maddie)
Theme song: ‘Better in Stereo,’ performed by Dove Cameron

Why Liv and Maddie might be annoying:

All episode titles end in ‘a-Rooney,’ including the pilot (‘Twin-a-Rooney’).
It was originally called ‘Bits and Pieces’ — based on the elements associated with Brady Bunch and Step By Step, and with Cameron as an entirely different (singleton and supporting) character.
High school was a true family affair — all four Rooney kids eventually attended the same school where their parents worked.
As the same actress plays the titular pair, there would have to be the inevitable ‘Switch-a-Rooney’ (sisters trading places) episode, with the predictably bad results.
    ‘BAM! What?’

Why Liv and Maddie might not be annoying:

At least the pilot episode avoided having ‘pilot’ in its title.
Co-executive producer Betsy Suellenger ultimately named the family for the owners of her hometown football team.
Almost the entire pilot cast was retained for the new concept.
The first season was 13 episodes; the second season went to 24.
The diametrically opposite personalities of the twins – not helped in any way by having barely spoken for four years – are the primary plot source.
