Some cast members played two different roles at the same time.
In fact Geary's performance as Bill Eckert, the identical cousin of Luke Spencer (also played by Geary), was deemed a failure.
In the late 1980s, fitness mogul Richard Simmons often made appearances as himself.
A primetime spinoff titled 'General Hospital: Night Shift' never materialized and was canceled after only 27 episodes.

Many famous actors such as John Stamos got their start on the show.
Many other famous people made guest appearances as well.
Luke and Laura Spencer were regarded as the most famous supercouple in daytime soap history.
Their wedding, which included a cameo by two-time Oscar winning actress Elizabeth Taylor, was the highest rated daytime entertainment television program in history (November 17, 1981).
'TV Guide' feted the show as the 'Greatest Soap Opera of All Time.'
