Why he might be annoying:

He originally called himself Harmonica Slim before discovering another recording artist was already using the name.
Producer J.D. Miller said, 'I thought he was one of the poorest singers I'd ever heard' and recorded him only as a favor to Lightnin' Slim -- Miller's most popular recording act and Harpo's brother-in-law.
He rarely toured outside the South, which limited his success.
A New York Time review suggested another factor limiting his appeal was that his live shows were not as flashy as those of B.B. King and Albert King.

Why he might not be annoying:

Miller later said of his voice, 'He had something that caught the ear and it was different.'
His songs 'Rainin' in My Heart' and 'Baby Scratch My Back' crossed over to the pop Top 40.
While working as a musician, he simultaneously ran a trucking company.
His songs were recorded by British invasion bands including the Rolling Stones, Yardbirds and Kinks. (Although Mick Jagger asked, 'What's the point in listening to us doing 'I'm a King Bee' when you can hear Slim Harpo do it?')
He died unexpectedly of a heart attack on the eve of a scheduled European tour that would have included recording an album in London with British musicians.
