Made debut as the team's mascot prior to the 2018-19 season.
Why Gritty might be annoying
He looks way too terrifying to be a mascot marketed for children.
Some critics felt the team's marketing department lazily created him, rather then put some thought into the finished product.
Many jokes compared him to the likes of Animal from the Muppets and Youppi! on methamphetamine amongst the notable ones.
In his debut, he slipped on the ice surface which some thought was initially a staged act.
In addition to his spill on the ice, he accidentally hit a fan in the back with a shirt from the cannon gun which was meant to be fired into the crowd.
Why Gritty might not be annoying
His clumsy antics made him a viral sensation.
His debut made him more popular then his in-city bretheren, Swoop and the Phillie Phanatic.
He is the first mascot in the history of the Flyers franchise.
He was created by the team's marketing department over a two year period.
