Why she might be annoying:

She is confused with Rita Moreno (usually by white audiences).
She frequently worked with Raul 'Gomez Addams' Julia.
She was typecast as the 'fiery Latin dance-hall girl/prostitute' in Westerns.
Her big break finally came on the soap opera circuit, in a short stint as a wheelchair-bound old woman on 'Guiding Light.'
Her newfound success led many to believe that she was an actually the paralyzed elderly woman on the show.
She has mistakenly been pegged as the wife of Mike Brady's Spanish business client in the mustache/double date episode of The Brady Bunch.

Why she might not be annoying:

She aged well into her fifties.
She was the first Puerto Rican member of Elia Kazan's Actor's Studio.
She received an Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theater (1993).
She received the Raúl Juliá Founders Award from the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (2000).
She secured scholarships in High School to study at both the Dramatic Workshop & Technical Institute and The Lee Strasburg Acting Studio in New York.
She formed the first traveling Hispanic theater troupe, directing many of the productions as well.
She gave the 1983 'Scarface' remake what little dignity and class it had as Al Pacino's proud mother.
She is constantly prompted by interviewers to play the 'double minority victim' card, but she never takes the bait.
When legendary Cuban singer La Lupe died, Colon brought in the bulk of the funds needed to purchase her headstone.
