The Resume
(November 8, 1973- )
Born in Kladno, Czech Republic
Drafted 76th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft
Defenseman for the Los Angeles Kings (1999-2000), Atlanta Thrashers (2000-04) and the Carolina Hurricanes (2006-09)
Why he might be annoying
He was drafted at the age of 25 and didn't make his NHL debut until the age of 26.
He was traded to the Thrashers 37 games into his NHL career.
His NHL career was overshadowed by that of his younger brother, Tomas.
Many hockey pundits felt he wouldn't adapt to the North American style of hockey as his style of play was better suited for the European ice surface.
He missed out on a chance to be a part of Hockey's Triple Gold Club as he wasn't a member of the Czech men's ice hockey team that captured the Gold medal at the Nagano games (1998).
Why he might not be annoying
He won five Gold Medals as a member of the Czech national team at the IIHF World Hockey Championships (1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005).
He scored the Stanley Cup clinching goal that gave the Carolina Hurricanes the franchise's first ever Stanley Cup victory (2006).
He, along with Tomas, became the first set of siblings from the Czech Republic to win the Stanley Cup.
He is the second player behind Igor Larionov to win both a bronze medal and a Stanley Cup in the same season.
He defied his critics and produced a serviceable NHL career, despite spending his formative seasons in the European leagues.
