Vocalist

The Resume

    (September 15, 1941-January 28, 2016)
    Born in Seattle, Washington
    Birth name was Signe Toly
    Founding member of Jefferson Airplane
Lead vocalist on ‘Chauffeur Blues’ on their debut album, ‘Jefferson Airplane Takes Off’ (1966)

Why she might be annoying:

She left Jefferson Airplane after one album.
She was completely overshadowed by her replacement, Grace Slick.
One of the reasons she left the band is that the other members did not get along with her husband, Jerry Anderson (a member of Ken Kesey’s Merry Pranksters).

Why she might not be annoying:

Her contralto voice harmonized well with the other band members.
Guitarist Jorma Kaukonen said, ‘She was our den mother in the early days of the Airplane … a voice of reason on more occasions than one.’
The main reason she left the band was that she gave birth to her first child and decided touring with a newborn would be too difficult.
She died on the same day as fellow Jefferson Airplane founder Paul Kantner.
