Why he might be annoying:

He mandated most of his credit unions conduct all business in French and only French-Canadian Catholics could be members.
He unsuccessfully sought Canadian national regulatory laws concerning depositors.
He only wanted to lend money to those who would use it for a specific productive purpose.

Why he might not be annoying:

Desjardins' purpose in setting up the credit unions we to encourage self-reliance in rural communities and discouraging usury.
He strongly wanted to help rural and agrarian communities, and discouraging those moving to the city.
Through his endeavors he created a successful credit union movement in North America.
