The Resume

    (February 12, 1644-circa 1730)
Born in Erlenbach im Simmental, Switzerland
Founder of the Amish, who split from the Mennonites (1693)
Introduced the washing of one another’s feet during communion services
Said to have died between 1712 and 1730

Why he might be annoying:

Details of his life and teachings are very scant, as there aren’t a lot of sources.
There’s a theory that he was born in the Madiswil area on February 19, 1656 to Jacob and Katharina Leuenberger Ammann.
    He was illiterate.
He was described as a harsh, domineering man who imposed his view on other people.
He forbade beard-trimming and lavish clothing.
He preached the shunning of excommunicated members, which his followers did by turning their backs on the person they hate and pretending they don’t exist.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a highly disciplined man.
He was a highly charismatic leader who fared well in arguments.
He never doubted his own beliefs.
He did have a brilliant mind despite his illiteracy.
He advised his followers to help one another in times of need.
He openly apologized to the Swiss ministers he excommunicated, confessing that he had acted rashly. (February 1700)
